DARTS RADAR · EVERGREEN PRACTICE COMPANION
Watch a great darts throw without trying to copy every detail
A Phil Taylor throw examination is a useful starting point for a more careful question: what should you look for when watching an expert? This Darts Radar companion gives you a viewing checklist and a simple way to turn an observation into a repeatable practice comparison.

Give your viewing a single job
Watch the original creator’s lesson first. On a second viewing, choose one visible feature: the starting position, the broad sequence of the arm movement, or what happens after release. Write down what you can actually see. Keep an observation such as “the hand finishes towards the target” separate from an explanation such as “that causes accuracy”. A video alone does not establish the cause.
Make a comparison, not a makeover
Film a few visits of your own throw from a safe position, keeping equipment and target unchanged. Compare the one feature you selected across several throws. Do not change grip, stance and action together in response to one poor visit. Our research note below explains why experts can use different release strategies and why looking different from a professional is not automatically a fault.
Put one idea through a fair test
Use the same short session on separate days and keep a record before choosing a change. If you try one adjustment, repeat the original tasks and note both outcomes and comfort. A good session is a useful observation, not proof that you have found the cause of an improvement. Stop if an adjustment is uncomfortable. The free routine gives you a log and consistent tasks; Throw Lab adds source-linked research and a longer practice workbook.
